Anne Ciavaglia McMahon, 64, a lifelong resident of Hasbrouck Heights, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023. Born in Hackensack to the late Ralph and Rose Ciavaglia, Anne graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey and dedicated her life to serving the community. She served as a Board of Education Trustee for the Bergen County Special Services School District, was a member of the Hasbrouck Heights Community Access for All Committee, and a Board of Trustee member of Heightened Independence and Progress. Anne was a lifetime volunteer with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and for over 40 years, she and her family managed the phone center for the MDA Telethon at the VFW in Hasbrouck Heights.
Professionally, Anne Ciavaglia McMahon enjoyed a 27-year career in human services, serving in high level administrative positions in government and the private and non-profit sectors. Before retirement, Anne was the Director of the Bergen County Division of Senior Services. Anne worked for Governors Whitman and Florio as Policy Advisor for the NJ Department of Labor, and for NJ Transit where she assisted in the development of the Access Link Paratransit System. In the private sector Anne was the Executive Director of DIAL, Inc. While there she aided in getting the Americans with Disabilities Act passed and attended the signing of the law at the White House Rose Garden. After retirement Anne founded Our New Journey, a non-profit organization that offered support to people with disabilities and their families.
Anne was the beloved wife of Brendan McMahon, dear sister of Anthony Ciavaglia and his wife Linda, and the late Robert Ciavaglia; loving aunt to Michael (John), Larissa (Anthony), Matthew (Adriana); and great aunt to Vinny, Cecilia, and Chiara. She is lovingly remembered by dear friends from every stage of her life. Anne was loved and cared for by her home staff nurses and aides, many of whom became part of her extended family. She is lovingly remembered by her extended family, including many beloved cousins, and dear friends from every stage of her life. She was a loving owner of many cats through the years.
Funeral Liturgy from Corpus Christi R.C. Church 260 Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights on Wednesday, January 25th at 10 AM. (All to meet at church). Interment following at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi. Visitation Tuesday, January 24th from 4-8 PM at Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave., Hasbrouck Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Heightened Independence and Progress, Inc. 131 Main St. Suite 120 Hackensack, NJ 07601 would be appreciated.
