Anthony "Tony" Bonillo of Hasbrouck Heights passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Beloved husband of Carole (nee Todt) Bonillo, Hasbrouck Heights High School sweethearts married for 62 years. Devoted Father of Elizabeth Stober and her husband Brian, Mary Beth Manzo and Anthony Bonillo. Dear brother of Geraldine Stanton, her husband John and his late brother Jerome Bonillo. Loving grandfather of Amy, Matthew, Brianna and her partner Jazz, Brittany, Bethany and her fiancé Jerome. Cherished great grandfather of Avery.
Tony was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Rose and Jerome Bonillo. He was a member of the Hasbrouck Heights High School class of 1956 where he was a three-sport athlete earning varsity letters in Football, Baseball and Basketball, playing on the 1955 State Championship Football Team. He earned "Most Athletic" in his high school yearbook, was on the Student Council and in the Honor Society.
After High School, Tony served his country in the United States Army, honorably discharged from the Army Reserve where he was a Supply Sergeant, also playing on their Basketball team.
He was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Before an early retirement he was a Senior Engineer for AT&T in Newark, New Jersey. During his retirement he enjoyed giving back to his community as a volunteer coaching youth Little League Sport Teams, the Rec Girls Softball and Rec Girls Basketball Teams, assistant coach of the Hasbrouck Heights High School Girls Basketball Team, coaching the Girls High School Softball Team as well as coaching the UGALS Girls Softball Traveling Team. In 2022 he received "Man of the Year" from the Hasbrouck Heights Men's Association for services and dedication. He was also a big Mets, Giants and UConn Huskies Women's Basketball Team fan. He always looked forward to spending time with many friends down at the athletic field watching the Hasbrouck Heights High School Football team every season. He enjoyed attending church for many years at the Christ First United Methodist Church and spending time with his special church family. Family time was very important to him in his life and he always made people feel loved and appreciated. He was a kind man with a genuine heart, who loved his family, friends, his country and Hasbrouck Heights where he lived most of his life. He will be greatly missed by our family and the friends he shared his life journey with.
A memorial service will be held at the Christ First United Methodist Church, 57 Burton Ave. Hasbrouck Heights, on Saturday, April 6 at 1 pm. Reverend Hyoik Kim officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Christ First United Methodist Church, 57 Burton Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey 07604 in memory of Anthony Bonillo would be appreciated.
Arrangements are by Costa Memorial Home in Hasbrouck Heights.
