Dorothy Davenport Dressel

Dorothy Davenport Dressel, 99, March 23, 1927- April 13, 2026.

Dorothy was born in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ on March 23, 1927, daughter of Pearl Estelle (Wheeler) Davenport and William John Davenport.

Her education included graduating from Hasbrouck Heights High School & attending Hope College in Holland, MI.

Her working career started at the Reformed Church Headquarters in NYC. Over the years she had numerous jobs to help with family finances including substitute teaching in the Hasbrouck Heights school system, before going back to work full time, 1st working for the Chicago South Shore & South Bend RR & then as a National Account Representative for the Port of New Orleans, both in NYC.

Her life pursuits included being an active member of the First Reformed Church of Hasbrouck Heights, which over the years included being a Sunday School teacher, playing piano & being Sunday School secretary. For many years she was also a member of Friendly Neighbors (organization helping people in Hasbrouck Heights). Plus spending her entire life loving & caring for living creatures, having numerous dogs & especially cats, rescuing many abandoned, plus helping foster & place numerous litters from feral cats.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, James, her parents, her brother Robert Davenport and sisters Alice Davenport & Louise Davenport.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Dressel of Hasbrouck Heights & Carol Dressel Grysko (Michael), grandchildren, James Grysko (Erin), Claire Grysko Gaudet (Paul) & great-grandchildren Jacob, David & Olivia Grysko, of Ponte Vedra Beach & St Augustine, FL. 

Visitation at The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights on Friday, April 17th from 9:30 - 10  AM with a Service at 10 AM. Interment following at Cold Spring Cemetery, Nelsonville, NY. Arrangements are by Costa Memorial Home in Hasbrouck Heights.
