Fitzin
October 29, 1936 — November 5, 2022
Dorothy Anne Fitzin, 86, born October 29, 1936, known as "Dot" or "Dottie" to her closest friends and family, went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2022. Born in Jersey City, the family, moved to Hasbrouck Heights in 1950, where she remained for 72 years.
Dot was a former graduate of St. Mary's High School in Rutherford, New Jersey. Not long after graduation, she married the love of her life, John Fitzin, Jr., on May 15, 1955 at Corpus Christi Church, and remained by his side as his loyal and devoted wife for 67 years.
Dot especially loved both the fall and Christmas seasons, traveling, collecting cardinals, playing board and card games, was a lifelong dog lover, and an avid fan of the movie, The Wizard of Oz.
In her retirement years, she spent much of her time with friends from the Leisure Club of Hasbrouck Heights.
Dot is survived by her son, Thomas and wife, Jane, grandchildren Michele and husband Eric, Steven and wife Kayla, and four great grandchildren, Collin Smith, Carley Smith, Liam Fitzin and Travis Fitzin, as well as her brother-in-law, Daniel Fitzin in addition to many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, Charles Goodfriend and Helen Brennan Goodfriend, who passed away when Dot was a very young child. However, Dot was raised by her father's second wife, Anna M. Fischer Goodfriend, who took on the role of mother and raised her as her own.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 12, from 2 pm to 5 pm with a Service at 3:15 p.m. at Costa Memorial Home, 170 Central Avenue (corner of the Blvd.) in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Private cremation will follow.
