Obituary

Edward Frey, Jr. 84, of Carlstadt, known to all as Uncle Eddie, passed away on Sunday July 9, 2023, after a short illness.  Ed's career after graduating from East Rutherford High School began by joining the U.S Army Reserve.  Ed then chose to apply for the local plumbing union and after completing the apprenticeship program, went on to receive his master plumbing license.  After 25 years Ed moved into the local building inspection group and began working for the borough of Carlstadt along with several other municipalities.  He also became a fire sub code official.

Ed joined the Carlstadt Fire Department in 1960, and rose through the ranks from fire officer to becoming Chief of the Department in 1979.  Ed's passion for the fire service continued for more than 30 years until he retired after fifty years of service.  During his long career, Ed was secretary of the Carlstadt Exempt Association for seventeen years and secretary of the Carlstadt Relief Association for twenty years.

Ed also found the time to belong to many Fire Matic organizations.  He was a life member of the New Jersey State Exempt Association, New Jersey State Fire Chiefs Association, active member of the International Association of Fire chiefs and member of the New York State Fire Chiefs Association. He was a trustee and life member of the South Bergen Mutual Aid Association. Ed was also a member of C.R.E.W Mutual Aid Group and Life Member New Jersey-New York volunteer Firemen's Association for the past sixty years.  Ed was also a long-time active member of the Bergen County Firemen's Home Association, and served as president in 2011.

Dear brother of Nancy Frey, Alice Phillips and her husband Ron and the late Eileen Frey. Loving uncle of Keri Stellato and her husband Mark and Ron Phillips, Jr. and his wife Betty. Cherished great uncle of Brianna and Brooke Stellato.
