Eleanor Anderson (nee Vara) 94, of Stoughton, MA, formerly of Wood-Ridge, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Born in Lodi on March 13, 1931, to the late Lucille and Anthony Vara. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Eleanor was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady in Wood-Ridge and a former member of their Bowling League. Beloved wife of the late Andrew "Buddy" Anderson, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, raising three children. Eleanor was a devoted mother of John Anderson and his wife, Suzanne, Michael Anderson and his wife, Kimberly, and Jerilyn Connor and her husband, James. Dear sister of Anthony Vara and his late wife Margaret "Peggy" Cheryl Adelung, and her late husband George, Ann Wazaney, and her late husband Norman, and the late Frank "Richard" Vara and his late wife Ruth. Loving grandmother of Sean Anderson and his wife Brianna, Kristen Crandall and her husband James, Elle, Jack, and Nicolas Anderson, and Owen Connor. Cherished great-grandmother of Hayden Tsiolas, Peyton Mayfield, Ava, and Carter Anderson. Eleanor is also survived by her nieces and nephews. She cherished every moment spent with her family. Eleanor touched the lives of many with her kindness and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral from Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights, on Wednesday, October 1st at 9:15 AM. Funeral Liturgy from the Church of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady in Wood-Ridge at 10:30 AM. Interment following at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visitation Tuesday, September 30th, from 4 - 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Catholic Charities www.donations@CatholicCharitiesUSA.org or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org would be appreciated.
