Obituary

Gerald A. "Gerry" Dinallo, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully
surrounded by family on January 15, 2024 at the age of 85. He is survived by his three children, Jerry
(Mary) Dinallo, Anthony (Jennifer) Dinallo, and Maria (Cash) McHargue, his 6 grandchildren (Christian,
Elena, Sofia, Isabella, Hunter, and Anthony and his brother Dennis Dinallo and sister-in-law Kathy
Dinallo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmine and Helen Dinallo and sister, Linda Chermark
(nee Dinallo) and brother-in-law Eddie Chermark.

Gerry was born in Passaic, New Jersey on April 17, 1938 to Carmine and Helen Dinallo. He attended
Corpus Christi Elementary School in Hasbrouck Heights and was proud to be an altar boy, serving Latin
mass many mornings before school. He was a member of the Hasbrouck Heights High School class of
1956 where he was a three-sport athlete earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. In
1955, he was quarterback and safety on the Group 1 Section 1 State Championship team and was
selected 1 st team All BCSL (Bergen County Scholastic League).

Soon after graduating high school, Gerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957. He
completed boot camp at Paris Island and after a long recovery from breaking his ankle playing
intramural football, had to complete boot camp for a second time. While in the Marine Corps, he took a
part time job at Walt Disney World in California. He became a ride operator for the highly anticipated,
soon to-open ride "The Rainbow Cavern Mine Train." He had the distinct honor of operating the ride for
Walt Disney himself on its maiden voyage and was told by the legend that he "did a great job."
In 1960, Gerry received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson
University in Teaneck with a minor in Secondary Education. He was awarded a Master's in Education
from Seton Hall University in 1969 and a Doctorate in Education from Fordham University in 1982.
In 1966, Gerry returned to Hasbrouck Heights High School as a teacher where he developed the
Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) Program that won many national awards. During his
nearly 30 years teaching at HHHS, he spent more than 20 coaching football. In 2003, he was honored to
to be inducted into the Hasbrouck Heights Hall of Fame.

In addition to his academic and athletic accomplishments, Gerry also held political positions. He was
elected to the Hasbrouck Heights Borough Council where he served for three years. He also served as
Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools before retiring from the district in 1993.

On February 9, 1968, Gerry married Lucille Imparato at Corpus Christi Church in Hasbrouck Heights.
They celebrated 55 years of marriage, raised three children together and took great pleasure in enjoying
their six grandchildren. Family time, the NY Giants, a dish of pasta, a cheeseburger from McDonald's,
big band music, and a walk down memory lane of his years with Hasbrouck Heights were what made
him most happy. He had a big heart and was a big presence in so many lives. He will be greatly missed
by all who had the privilege to know him.
