Gilbert Walter Schwalb 90, of Toms River passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born in Newark, Gil lived his childhood years in Ho-Ho-Kus. He attended Ridgewood High School and the University of St. Louis. Gil enlisted in the Army during the Korean War, serving with the 25th Infantry Division and received an Honorable Discharge after a three year enlistment. He was employed by Eastern Airlines for 12 years and the remainder of his work life was spent in various food service industries. Gilbert had a lifelong interest in aviation having earned his pilot's license while still in high school. In later years, he became interested in radio control aviation. Gil moved to Brick in 1987 and 10 years later to Green Briar Woodlands community in Toms River. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Dorothy Schwalb, his sister Nancy Wisse and his loving wife Anne Schwalb. Gilbert is survived by his children Barbara Frech and son-in-law David, Stephen Schwalb and daughter-in-law Florencia, Robert Schwalb and daughter-in-law Cindy and Ann Smithers and son-in-law Sean. His grandchildren Christy Sharp, Sharon Frech, David Frech, Kenneth Ziobro and Kaitlin Schwalb. Upon Gil's request, Services for his immediate family will be held at Costa Memorial Home in Hasbrouck Heights with an interment following at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
