Henry Joseph
Tomczak
July 13, 1938 — February 8, 2024
Henry J. Tomczak, 85, of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, passed away in his sleep on the morning of February 8, 2024. Known to many as "Hank", he was born on July 13, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, to Stanislaus & Helen Tomczak. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Edward Tomczak.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Christine (Marek) of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; three sons, Paul and his wife Paige, John and his wife Justine, Mark and his wife Linda. He will be missed especially by his eight grandchildren – Virginia, Justin, Jessica, Jake, Michelle, Madison, Matthew, Jason - with whom he spent countless hours babysitting, stroller-pushing, apple picking, swimming and numerous other activities. He will also be missed by his many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
After Hank graduated from HS in 1956, he spent almost 3 years in the Marine Corps and was very proud of his service to our country. After leaving the Marines, Hank met the love of his life while attending one of the many polka dances in Oak Ridge, NJ. He married Christine on May 28, 1966, and soon after moved into the house they have lived in for over 50 years in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. He spent his entire career working for Western Union where he was an electromechanical repairman. He loved working on electronics and even built, from a kit, the first color TV we had in our house. He was an avid plastic model builder, and he loved to go to model shows and see all the built models. He retired in 2000. After that he travelled the world with his wife visiting many countries in Europe, the Americas and Australia.
Henry was a funny prankster who loved to go shooting on Sundays with his Rifle Club friends and playing cornhole & volleyball with his Swim Club buddies. He was generous, loyal, and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. He could fix anything and passed that knowledge down to his sons. He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
