Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jacqueline Ann Mazza (née Murphy) on March 30, 2025, at the age of 78. Jackie was a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend, who will be missed by all who knew her. Born on November 14, 1946, Jackie lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and commitment to her family, friends, and community.

Jackie was outgoing, friendly, charismatic, and intelligent, with a strong sense of responsibility, confidence, compassion, and leadership. She led an exemplary life, always deeply committed to those she loved and the causes she believed in. As the eldest of three children, Jackie embraced her role as a natural-born leader, instilling confidence and kindness in all around her. She inspired others through her example and her belief in the goodness and potential of those she encountered. A shining example of love and partnership was her devoted marriage to her husband, John. They were married in 1977 and, through their relationship, demonstrated unwavering commitment, participating in Pre-Cana at Corpus Christi Church as part of their bond. Their love, solid and supportive, remained the foundation of their life together for 48 years.

Jackie loved being a mother. She found immense joy in the role, always making sure her daughter knew how cherished she was. Jackie's love for her family extended beyond her immediate circle; she was an excellent friend, known for her magnetic personality that made everyone feel valued and included. She loved hosting parties and was always the first one on the dance floor, bringing energy and joy to every celebration.
Jackie had a passion for learning that lasted her entire life. She earned her Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and later, earned a Bachelor's degree in English from William Paterson University. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, she continued to take classes even after graduation. She loved reading, especially mystery novels, and had the honor of meeting her favorite author, Mary Higgins Clark, several times. She had a lifelong love of word games, especially her daily crossword puzzles and playing Words with Friends.

In her professional life, Jackie worked as an executive in the Customer Relations Department for both Volvo North America and Pirelli Tires. She eventually found her true calling as a nursery school teacher at the Methodist Nursery School, where she was beloved by her students and their families. Many of her former students kept in touch with Jackie, often sharing fond memories of her nurturing spirit and excellence as a teacher and mentor.

Jackie was also deeply involved in volunteer work. She contributed her time to organizations such as Friendly Neighbors and Meals with a Mission.  She was an active member of Corpus Christi Church where she was President of the Rosary Society, was a Eucharistic Minister, and taught CCD for 30 years. Jackie was committed to giving back to the community, particularly through her participation in numerous PTA organizations.

Jackie's life was one of deep devotion to her family, friends, and the causes that mattered most to her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, friendship, and service to others. Jackie's example of kindness, leadership, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.
Jackie is predeceased by her parents, Helen and Robert Murphy, and her brother, Robert T. Murphy. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; daughter, Jessica; sister, Helen Murphy; and many cousins, former students, and lifelong friends. She is deeply missed by all who knew her and will forever remain in their hearts.

In closing, we offer this Irish prayer in remembrance of Jackie:
May the road rise up to meet her,
May the wind be always at her back.
May the sun shine warm upon her face,
And the rains fall soft upon her fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold her in the palm of His hand.
