James P. Dressel 100, of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 peacefully at home. James was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edna Veronica O'Brien Dressel and Samuel James Dressel. He is survived by his wife of over 73 years Dorothy Davenport Dressel, daughters Barbara Dressel of Hasbrouck Heights and Carol Dressel Grysko and her husband Michael of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., grandchildren James Grysko and his wife Erin and Claire Grysko, great grandchildren Jacob and David Grysko, and 7 nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his sister Dolores.

During W.W.II, James served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad (now CN) for 42 years and after retirement, one of the various part-time jobs included working at the Hasbrouck Heights Library. He was a 75 Year member of the Euclid Masonic Lodge #136. James graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University while working full time, in addition to having a wife and 2 young children. He was married in and was a member of The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights. He was a nature lover his entire life and a member of the Environmental Committee of Hasbrouck Heights for several years.

Funeral Service at The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights on Friday, March 31st at 12 Noon. Reverend Debbie Rundecker officiating. Interment following at Cold Spring Cemetery in Nelsonville, NY. Visitation Friday from 10:30-11:30 AM at Costa Memorial Home in Hasbrouck Heights. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor his memory please make donations to The First Reformed Church P.O. Box 66 Hasbrouck Heights, NJ 07604 or to any environmental cause such as the Sierra Club would be appreciated.
