Obituary

Jennifer Ann Doherty 52, of Hackensack, formerly of Franklin Lakes, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. A graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest, New Jersey, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in New Orleans and a Masters Degree in Education from Long Island University. Jennifer was a dedicated teacher in the Paterson Public School System for 21 years and most recently taught middle school science at P.S. 13. She mentored a number of new teachers throughout her career and served as a union delegate in each school where she worked. Jennifer was a member of the Paterson Education Association and served on the Executive Board where she helped countless members with their maternity and family leave issues. She was also a member of the New Jersey Education Association. In 2012, Jennifer was burned while on vacation in Jamaica. She was flown to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ where she spent seven weeks recovering. Her experience at the Burn Unit led her to become a peer support volunteer of the Phoenix Society at St. Barnabas Medical Center where she helped other burn patients in their recovery. She was known for her compassion, dedication, and sense of humor. A true Leo, she loved being the center of attention and was known to fill a room with her personality and laughter.  She always found a way to form long lasting friendships with people she had just met as you were no longer a stranger five minutes after speaking with her. Jennifer did not miss an opportunity to tell everyone she met that she was a teacher in Paterson and that she was adopted as she was proud of both facts. Jennifer loved to spend time on Long Beach Island and with her family and friends. Beloved wife of Hani Khoury. Loving daughter of Dora and the late Patrick Doherty. Dear sister of Kevin Doherty and his wife Emily and adored aunt of Zoza Rose Doherty. Cherished friend to countless people who will all miss her dearly.
