Obituary

Leonard R. Kaiser, of North Arlington passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Born in Jersey City, "Lenny" grew up and lived in North Arlington for over 70 years. He was a graduate of Queen of Peace High School, a lifetime member of the North Arlington Elks Lodge #1992, honorary lifetime member of the North Arlington Fire Department and the North Arlington Knights of Columbus. Lenny was most widely known as the Mayor of North Arlington from 1983-2002. He spent these years serving the town he loved, contributed and shaped the community in ways that will live on beyond him for many years. He was a fixture in Bergen County government for 34 years where he served as a Bergen County Freeholder from 1985-1987 and held significant roles in the Bergen County Executive Office as Chief of Staff to the County Executive and as the Director of Municipal and Labor Relations. He also served as a Commissioner at the NJ Meadowlands Commission and held the position of Executive Director of the Bergen County Utilities Authority until his retirement in 2011. As successful as he was professionally, Lenny considered his greatest accomplishments to be his family and what he was able to provide for his community. "The May" as he was known to many, was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Edna Kaiser. Beloved husband of 35 years to Barbara, Devoted father of Amy Coleman (Chris), Michael Kraft (Christina) and Cindy Smithlin (Zachary) and five grandchildren: Jack and Kayla Coleman, Cameron Kraft, and Luke and Jared Smithlin. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Catherine Quigley, his brother-in-law, Mark Josephson and his wife Faye and three nephews and one niece. Funeral from Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave. Hasbrouck Heights on Thursday, September 16th at 9:15 AM. Funeral Liturgy from Queen of Peace R.C. Church in North Arlington at 11 AM. Interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation for relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 15th from 3-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the W. Cary Edwards Foundation: 6 Millbrook Lane, Franklin Lakes, NJ. 07417. Masks will be optional upon entering the funeral home.
