Lucille "Pat"
Russo
August 20, 1928 — January 30, 2024
Lucille "Pat" Russo (nee Petruzzelle) 1928-2024
Pat was the daughter of the late Anna (Boccia) & Thomas Petruzzelle. She grew up in Huntington, Long
Island & Hoboken, NJ. She was involved in many activities at AJ Demerest High School, including
theatre. After working for Lipton Tea Company, she married Nicholas Russo Sr. in 1949. They lived
above Stans Sporting Goods on Washington Ave. for a few years, but the arrival of daughter Terri & Son
Nick Jr. required a move out to "the country" (compared to Hoboken), which was Wood-Ridge.
Their brand-new home on Palmer Terrace was, in retrospect, a $19,000 bargain! Plenty of young
families were on the block, which was essentially a tight-knit little community. Their (late) daughter,
Patricia arrived within a year & their son, Tom a couple years later.
Pat was a parishioner of Assumption Church & sent all 4 kids to Assumption School. She was essentially
a homemaker & kid-raiser, until her husband, Nick Sr., passed away at the age of 59. (Kids, do yourself &
your loved ones a favor & do not smoke cigarettes!) Pat was only 51 then, so she wasted no time &
enrolled in a Paralegal Secretary Program at BCC, where she completed her associate degree.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office hired Pat upon graduation. She made many new friends there as
this new career woman assisted in local crime-fighting for over 25 years. She finally retired when she
was 81 years young. When the Palmer Terrace home became too much to care for, Pat sold it in 2018 at a tidy profit, as one
can imagine. Being a savvy investor, she immediately bought an oceanfront condo in Mantoloking, NJ,
renting it out to supplement her pension. The last 6 years, Pat enjoyed a carefree life in an assisted living facility in upper Bergen County. There,
she participated in day trips, many arts & crafts & bingo. For 95 years, Pat's life was well-lived.
Pat is survived by her daughter Terri (Ken) & sons, Nick Jr (Ellen) & Tom (Donna). Also, her grandchildren
are Anthony, Andrea, Nicole, Alex, Mark, Greg, Richard & Gabrielle. In the past 2 years, Pat experienced
great joy in visits with her great-grandson, Dylan. Pat's much younger sister is Gina Wassong (Wolfie).
She is also survived by dozens of nieces & nephews on both side of the family.
Pat's late daughter was Patricia. Her late brother was Vito Petruzzelli.
Pat's viewing will be on Sunday, February 4, from 12 noon until 4pm at Costa Funeral Home at the
corner of Central Ave & The Blvd in Hasbrouck Heights.
A repast will follow the viewing at The 18th Amendment 21 Union Ave in Rutherford. There will be a funeral mass on Monday, February 5 at
11:30am at Assumption Church in Wood-Ridge, 143-1st St . The burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
