Marcella "Marcie" E. Phelan (nee Ress) 80, of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Born in Jersey City to the late Lillian V. and Herbert J. Ress.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Phelan, devoted mother of James F. Phelan (Destiny), dear sister of Michael Hawkins (Susan) and the late George Ress (Ardis). Marcie is also survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, friends, and she shared a special and cherished friendship with the Leahy and the DiLorenzo families.

Marcie was a graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School and was recently inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. She received her Bachelors Degree from Montclair State College and her Masters Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University.

Before retiring, Marcie was the Band Director and an academic teacher of Social Studies and English at Roy W. Brown Middle School in Bergenfield for 41 years. She was an active volunteer with Bright and Beautful Therapy Dogs, a member of the New Jersey Symphony (where she played her clarinet), the Bergenfield Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and Cornerstone Sisters of St. Joseph’s in Oradell.

Funeral from Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights on Wednesday, June 24th at 9 AM. Funeral Liturgy from Corpus Christi R.C. Church 260 Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights at 10 AM. Entombment following at Garden of Memories in Township of Washington. Visitation Tuesday, June 23rd from 3 - 7 PM at the funeral home.
