Obituary

Richard E. Desimone, 85, of Little Falls, formerly of Clifton and Lodi, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025. Born in Jersey City and raised in Hasbrouck Heights, Richard was the son of the late Gladys and Ralph Desimone.

A proud Army veteran, Richard began his distinguished career in law enforcement in 1968 with the Lodi Police Department. Rising through the ranks, he retired as a respected Lieutenant, having left a lasting impact on the department and the many officers he mentored. He served with the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force as one of its original members, worked closely with the Juvenile Division, and later served as a Detective Lieutenant. His leadership, fairness, and dedication to justice earned him admiration throughout the community.

Richard met the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" D'Amico, in a serendipitous moment—helping her with a flat tire. From that moment on, he knew she was the one. He once told his cousin Carolyn, "I'm going to marry that woman one day," and he did. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising two daughters, Lisa and Debra.

To his grandchildren, Richard was so much more than a grandfather. He was a father figure, a comedian, a confidant, a chauffeur, and a cheerleader. He gave generously of his time, energy, and love. With his quick wit, warmth, and larger-than-life personality, he made everyone feel welcome and special. Anyone who knew Richard couldn't help but love him—he had a natural charm, a deep loyalty to those he cared for, and a heart as big as his presence.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia (née D'Amico) Desimone.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Desimone and Debra Simpson, and her partner Scott Comstock. He was a proud grandfather to Scott Nicastro Jr., and his partner Montana Loran, and great-granddaughter Seven, Jessica Nicastro, and great-granddaughter Siena, Michael Nicastro, and his wife Mara, and great-granddaughters Avriella and Viviana, Kailie Simpson, Carli Simpson, and Colin Simpson. His legacy will continue to live on in each of them.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 31st from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Costa Memorial Home, 170 Central Avenue (cor. of Blvd.) in Hasbrouck Heights. Funeral Service Tuesday, April 1st at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.

Richard E. Desimone lived a life of honor, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
