Richard E.
Givin
April 5, 1930 — August 4, 2025
Richard E. Givin 95, of Wood-Ridge passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025. Born April 5, 1930 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Gladys and Robert Givin, he spent his childhood in Ohio. As a young man, Richard answered the call of duty enlisting in the U.S. Navy serving honorably in Norfolk, VA. During this time a close friend, Frank Picone invited him to spend their leave with his family in Weehawken, a visit that changed the course of his life. It was there that he met the love of his life Dolores, whom he married and shared 68 devoted years together. They raised two sons and Richard built a lifelong career working for the Newark Evening News and later The Star Ledger. After his retirement, he cherished his time at the Jersey shore, enjoying summers and peaceful days aboard his beloved boat, Foolish Pleasure.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores, his sons, Douglas (Michael Blasi) and Gary (David Lisbon) and many nieces and nephews. Dear brother of the late Wilbur Givin.
Richard will be remembered always as a man who led by example a life defined by hard work, humility, honesty, service and above all integrity.
