W. Peter Kepsel 97, a life-long resident of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on the anniversary of his mother's birthday, Sunday, September 14, 2025. Born on July 23,1928 to Julius A. Kepsel, magistrate of Hasbrouck Heights for 35 years and Eleanor M. (nee Maresca) Kepsel in Hudson County at Dr. Brandberg's home who was a family friend. During high school, he worked at the A&P, The Observer and painted classrooms for the Board of Education. He also worked at the sewer plant in Hasbrouck Heights and picked crops at local farms. He worked at hog farms in Wyckoff and Secaucus, his favorite jobs. Peter received his B.S. Degree in Finance from Seton Hall University. Before retiring, Peter was Vice-President and worked at Oritani Savings & Loan for 30 years. He was a life-long member of The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights. Peter was the beloved husband of M. Susanne (nee Peters) Kepsel for 56 years. Devoted father of his only daughter, Allison Kepsel. He had a great sense of humor, he was quick witted, sarcastic, gregarious, hard working, intelligent, generous, unorthodox and when asked how he was, he always answered "Fantastic!" or its better to be seen than viewed. His interests included, his family, including his beloved cats, finance and investing, swimming, walking all around town (often referred to as Mr. Hasbrouck Heights), target shooting and foodie. Peter was a member of the Lions Club, the Euclid Masonic Lodge, the B.P.O.Elks Lodge 1962, the Leisure Club, The First Monday Club, Crime Stoppers, the Republican Club and a former county committee member, a trustee for the Board of Education, the Swim Club, an inductee of the Football Hall of Fame all in Hasbrouck Heights and the Utility Investors Group.
A Memorial Service will be offered at The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights at a later date with an inurnment following at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Arrangements are by Costa Memorial Home in Hasbrouck Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights would be appreciated.
