Wendell Vega 87, of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Born in San German, Puerto Rico to the late Ramon and Herminia Vega but was raised in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1950-1955 and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Congressional Gold Medal for serving in the 65th Infantry, The Boriquineers. Wendell was a Past Commander and a life member of both the V.F.W. Post 2867 in Garfield and the V.F.W. Post 3884 in Saddle Brook and served twice as a District Commander. He was also a life member of the American Legion. Before retiring, Wendell was a truck driver for Apex Trucking Co. in Secaucus and was a member of the Teamsters Union. Beloved husband of Alice H. (nee Neuman) Vega. Devoted father of Amy H. Kovatis and her husband Paul E. Kovatis, M.D. and Frank Vega and his wife Laura Zubrycki. Dear brother of Rochi Negron and predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters. Loving grandfather of Logan and Charlotte. Cherished uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday, May 14th from 5-7 PM at Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave. Hasbrouck Heights. Interment on Tuesday, May 18th at 2:30 PM at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
