Obituary

William "Bill" Mathe, age 74, of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021.

Born in Passaic and raised in East Rutherford, Bill served in the Army and after an honorable discharge, he began a long career in the telecommunications industry, working for NJ Bell, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies. Upon his early retirement from Lucent, Bill worked as the Supervisor of Telephone Services for the County of Bergen.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn (nee Wecht) Mathe, his loving sons Kevin Mathe and his wife Danielle and Steven Mathe and three cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Mary and Jillian. He is also survived by his favorite brother in law Bud Wecht and his wife Pat, his cousins Debbie and Bob Weinschenk, and many other loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Raymond Mathe and Lorraine (Boyle) Mathe, as well as his beloved brother George.

Bill loved spending time at his "happy place," the family's shore house in Manahawkin and his neighbors there fondly recall their "greatest fishing trip ever" where they were caught for hours in a severe storm and weren't sure if they'd make it back (they did!). He enjoyed entertaining family and friends there, while sharing many laughs, beers, and cocktails. He also enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas casinos, attending/watching football and hockey games, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Visitation Tuesday, September 14th from 6-9 PM at Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave. Hasbrouck Heights. Memorial contributions to your favorite charity in memory of Bill would be appreciated. To protect family and friends a mask will be required upon entering the funeral home.
